Using Outdoor Adventure Activities (OAA) as a resilience building intervention with female youth: building new theories and framework using a Realist Approach

This forty minute oral presentation presentation discussed a realist review which was completed to understand more about the mechanisms involved in the strengthening of female youth resilience through OAA. The presentation covered; the process of theory development; the six theories; an explanation of the overarching model and how it could be used; and theories from other disciplines which support this work and may be useful to consider in practice. Following this, recommendations of how this research could be applied in adventure therapy, and suggestions for future research were highlighted.
