Description
Purpose of this Transformative Service Research (TSR) is to consider proactivity of individuals and communities for wellbeing as a research priority (Rosenbaum, 2015; Ostrom, et al., 2021) and highlight insights from charity experiences regarding transformative value (Di Pietro et al., 2022) and outcomes of immersion, co-creation, and epistemological change using Mulder et al. (2015) Transformative Charity Experience framework (TCE). We investigate perceptions between charities, volunteers and communities and the roles of individuals and groups who play an integral supporting role in Botanic Garden service settings and beyond, whilst considering Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) (UN, 2023). Eighty-four people participated in the study across three botanic gardens in the UK, generating rich narratives which were analysed using Nvivo 12 Plus, Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS) alongside manual content analysis. Significant themes and concepts linked to the TCE framework are apparent, which support significant ongoing theoretical development of TSR and offer significant insights for service management practitioners and policy makers regarding SDG. This is the first paper to reveal Transformative Service Research (TSR) insights into service design and value co-creation contexts and outcomes of botanic garden volunteers in community groups.
