Transformative Hospitality Service In The Context Of Soup Kitchens

Activity: Talk or presentation typesOral presentation

Description

As a time-served, centuries-old, transformative service, hospitality (Gallan et al., 2021) has been associated with key components of the travel and tourism sector (Inkson and Minnaert, 2022; Page and Connelly, 2019; Urry and Uysal, 2021). However, little is mentioned about the forgotten others that also have significance regarding hospitality, such as soup kitchens. These community-based groups have not been researched through the lens of Transformative Service Research (TSR) (Rosenbaum, 2007; Anderson et al., 2013; Anderson and Ostrom, 2015; Field et al., 2021). Our TSR aims to explore such novel agency of this type of hospitality via perceptions of hosts and guests of soup kitchen communities in the North West of England, UK. We use Gallan et al. (2021), Transformative Hospitality Services (THS) framework to map creative means to draw attention and open debate to THS significance and capabilities. Our findings contribute to ongoing TSR priorities and agenda with a focus on this underexplored, hidden hospitality.
