Informal learning pedagogy can lead to increased authenticity, relevance, student autonomy, and student motivation. The true nature of informal learning is largely unorganised, haphazard and self-directed. However, in higher education, there are formalities that need to be adhered to, for example, timetabling, assessment and core content that must be taught. It is proposed that a balance can be achieved between the formal and informal, and that informal learning pedagogy can positively influence our practice in higher education to enhance student experience.
