Description
Resilience is often the focus of interventions designed to promote positive mental health in young people and is cited as a protective factor against poor mental health outcomes. Outdoor adventure programmes have been shown to positively impact resilience, however, existing theories on which programmes are constructed can lack specificity and evidence. UK figures suggest that female youth over the age of 16 are more likely to have mental health disorders than their male peers and younger females. Therefore, effective resilience promoting interventions, such as outdoor adventure programmes, could be beneficial for this population. This presentation will discuss theories of what works for who, why, and under which circumstances when designing and implementing outdoor adventure programmes aimed at strengthening resilience in young women. Evidence from a recent project which delivered an outdoor adventure programme within the context of a university will be used to illustrate the theories in action. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of the implications and recommendations for green social prescribing.| Period | 12 Jun 2025 |
