Holy Hosts

Description

A small-scale, mid-week hybrid event as part of the national Being Human Festival 2023 and “Be My Guest” Festival Hub led by EHU and vision of Dr Zayneb Allak, Director of EHUs Institute for Creative Enterprise (ICE) 2023. 'Holy Hosts' was based on specific contexts of hospitality and the arts, such as Dr Kim Wiltshire research into the hurdles faced by the arts, and health organisations and communities such as the NHS, and insights into the working lives of nursing staff and carers; and research by me, Nick Catahan, and research interests of Dr’s Susie Marriott, Neil Robinson and Crispin Dale, into SDGs, soup kitchens, homelessness, hunger and poverty, and innovating on public engagement and awareness via the arts. This event brought together local and regional arts, creative enterprise, cultural organisations, and a range of perspectives that connect our cutting-edge research to the histories, cultures, and communities of hospitality in these contexts. The event was developed with key academic and technical staff from EHU Creative Edge and regional collaborative partners: Sarah-Louise Jones, Sam Raymond and SLBOC our venue and events space managers and provider, The Whitechapel Centre (a leading homeless and housing charity) and CEO David Carter, who provided a talk, and signposting and soup provision (which we sponsored out of ICE funds) for those in need during the event, Chris Tomlinson AKA Tomo, Co-Director of Turntable Theatre directing the creative elements, Fusion Dance Theatre for No Angels creative dance and theatrical performances, and Georgie Cunningham of Tenderfoot Theatre and actors, Kate Carey and Joseph Roberts provided theatrical pieces for Holy Hosts using transcripts from my research participants linked to soup kitchens, and not forgetting special guests, indie band, Keyside provided a concert.
