In this guest lecture, Dr Mike Gow will explore the relationship between consumerism, citizenship, and consensus to the state vision for China in the 21st century. The role of the state in setting the parameters of identity and citizenship through key propaganda campaigns is discussed before analysing the mobilisation of state and non-state actors and their role in the formation of a durable consensus.
