Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

In this roundtable discussion, Dr Mike Gow will about how state vision gives rise to a business ethics which appears to reorder the four key corporate social responsibility (CSR) priorities of corporations operating in Xi’s China: economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic. Discussion will explore our conventional understanding of CSR before Dr. Gow examines aspects of contemporary China’s external political and economic environment. This discussion will examine specific CSR strategy in contemporary China and present a model of “Corporate Socialist Responsibility” which challenges conventional CSR wisdom. Finally, Dr Gow discusses the challenges this emergent “Corporate Socialist Responsibility” presents to multinational corporations operating within the PRC, proposing a “CSR Trilemma” which limits MNCs to the fulfilment of two CSR priorities at the expense of a third.
